I must admit that I don’t know anything about Linux. I looked at some of the material related to the Boabab program because it seemed like a useful way of visualizing data, not that I’d be able to utilize the program. It also was visually attractive to my plebeian understanding of the color palette and aesthetics. After looking at some of the tutorial-style information and gazing dumbly at some source code, I quickly became frustrated because there wasn’t a glowing green DOWNLOAD button that people could click on.
Then I remembered that this is the kind of program designed for and by people who know what the hell they’re doing with a computer and are more than an end user of a product created en masse by a corporation.
This (and the blog that it’s been featured on) is the kind of thing that motivates me to learn more about computers, technology and how things work generally.
